The Dancing Mennonite

Monday, February 20th, 2006

First off, I’m going to take you guys back a couple years. This was before we went on furlough, so I was about 14. One evening, we were at our mission centre, and there was “English Country Dancing” going on. Now, dancing seemed to me like something only sissies would do. So, when Darren went over and joined in the dances, I teased him mercilessly.

Now, looking back, I realize how much fun I missed! Why? Well, there was another dance on Saturday night, and this time, I wasn’t too “mature” to participate! English Country Dancing is similar to Square Dancing, but more complicated. We’d learn all the steps first, and then try to put it to music. Some of the dances were hard, but there was a guy who knew them all well, and helped us get it right. It was an evening of good, clean fun, and I think everyone enjoyed themselves!

In other news, I’m working on another section of my website, where I’ll have some of the writing I’ve done, and other fun stuff! I’ll be sure to let you all know when it’s ready.

Trevor and Darren, Such Punks

Darren and I have started a list of things we must do before I leave this summer. High on that list was dying our hair black and putting it in mohawks! Now, we weren’t about to shave our heads, but we made the most of a whole tube of hair gel, and a can of temporary hair spray. We also wore black shirts, dark pants, and…bright white socks and flip-flops!

Here’s what we looked like:

The result was many great reactions from people at Youth Group, everything from “That’s just plain awesome!” to “You guys are completely and utterly insane!” Fortunately there weren’t any new people around who might have been scared off!

This was the kind of hair spray that washes out immediately, so it was only a one-evening thing.
That’s my story for today!
